Abstract

Reading is one of the important skills to be learned by students so that students can master English well. In this research, the problem formulation as follows: (1) Is the method of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy effective in reading ability in the students of class X SMK PGRI 4 Ngawi? (2) How is the effectiveness of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy method in reading ability in grade X students of SMK PGRI 4 Ngawi? Research methodology includes research design, place and time of study, population, sample and sampling, data collection techniques and data analysis techniques. This research was conducted at SMK PGRI Ngawi. The type of this research is experimental research, researchers do pretest and post test. Total samples in this study were 40 students consisting of students of class X AK amounted to 20 students and class X PBS amounted to 20 students. The research object was class X AK as experiment class and X PBS as control class. Researchers used a random sample. Based on the results of research methods of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy proved effective to teach reading comprehension, especially narrative text on the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 4 Ngawi. There are differences of result in experimental and control class in the pretest and post test. It also indicated by the result of the t-test formula is t research is 1.70. Researchers use the degrees of free 38, obtained from (N1 + N2-2) = (20 + 20-2) = 38. Researchers use 5% free degree. If t research is compared with the value of the free degree the result is 1.70> 1.68. The value of t research is greater than t table, meaning that the reciprocal teaching strategy method is effective for teaching.
