The poem "Aku" by Chairil Anwar is one of Indonesia's literary masterpieces, rich in symbolic meaning. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings within the poem using a semiotic approach. The method employed is descriptive-qualitative analysis based on Roland Barthes' theory of denotation, connotation, and myth. The results reveal that the poem "Aku" represents existential struggles, individual freedom, and resistance against life's limitations. The symbols used in this poem reflect the spirit of freedom and courage, relevant to the context of Indonesia's struggle for independence at that time. This study provides significant insights into understanding the symbolic dimensions of Indonesian literature and the relevance of the poem's meaning in a broader sociocultural context.
