Abstract

This study discusses the speech act of the host of Mata Najwa show on Metro TV because this show has achieved national and international awards. Its problem is the structure and the meaning of the assertive speech act of the host of Mata Najwa show on Metro TV. The purpose of the study is to describe the structure and the meaning of the assertive speech act of the host of Mata Najwa show on Metro TV. This study uses qualitative descriptive method. It uses a scrutinize technique, note which is supported with a recording equipment. Its result describes the structure of assertive speech act, which are news, orders, and questions. Then, it is also about the meaning of assertive speech act, which are stating, reporting, giving opinion, and proposing.
