Abstract

This study aims to describe the causes, forms, and impacts of social protest in Ardian Kresna’s novel Punakawan Menggugat. This research includes the type of qualitative descriptive research. The data used is in the form of words, sentences and paragraphs. The data source for this research is the novel Punakawan Menggugat by Ardian Kresna. The research instrument was the researcher himself who was equipped with a set of sociological theories of literature as an analytical knife. The data collection methods and techniques used in this study were non-interactive and read, observe, and note-taking techniques. Data analysis methods and techniques in this study are descriptive methods and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study are as follows; (1) the causes of social protest, including: (a) leaders who forget their people, (b) the arrogance and arbitrariness of leaders, (c) economic problems, (c) the common people are only objects, (2) forms of social protest among others; (a) direct protests, and (b) indirect protests, and (3) the results of social protests are able to awaken leaders.
