BUDAYA JAWA DALAM NOVEL KARYA S. W. ACHMAD CENTHINI PEREMPUAN SANG PENAKLUK DI LANGIT JURANG JANGKUNG

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation and meaning of Javanese culture in S. W. Achmad’s novel, Centhini Perempuan Sang Penakluk di Langit Jurang Jangkung. The research design is a qualitative descriptive research. The collecting data techniques used were listening, reading, notetaking techniques and library techniques. The steps of data analysis carried out, were: 1) grouping the data according to the formulation of the problem and research objectives, 2) data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method, 3) draw conclusions. The research results showed that the representation of Javanese culture in the novel was divided into three; the culture of behavior, culture of speech, and culture of writing. Javanese culture of behavior is realized in the form of prudence and vigilance (aware and alert), control of passions and anger (anger lust, aluamah lust, supiyah lust, mutmainah lust). The cultural form of Javanese speech is realized in the form of politeness (kulo nuwun/excuse me), and a good call (Nduk) for girls. Meanwhile, Javanese written culture is realized in the form of expressions, such as: “Celak sela, tebih sangking raja gung binathara, b) “Sabda pendhito ratu, tan bisa wola wali”, c) “Jajah desa milang kori”.
