Makna Simbolik Kembar Mayang dalam Pernikahan Jawa dan Alternatif Pembelajarannya di SMP

Abstract

Culture in Javanese society, especially in wedding ceremonies is very diverse. One of them is the use of kembar mayang which are contained with a system of symbols and meanings. This study aims to describe various symbols, meanings and uses of kembar mayang in Javanese marriages ceremony. The method used is qualitative. The researchers took data in the field by using observation and documentation. The data were analyzed using a descriptive interactive model technique. The results showed that kembar mayang consisted of various components, including brass bowls, saplings of wit gedhang, coconut leaves, andhong leaves, manuk-manukan, banyan leaves, whips, keris-kerisan, gununggunungan, and uler-uleran. Overall, keris kerisan symbolized the code of conduct and life guidelines when a man and a woman decided to marry. In addition, keris kerisan can also be used as teaching materials in schools, especially in learning art and culture.
