Abstract

This study examines the oral traditions found in Sukuh Hamlet, Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. The purpose of this study in general is to find out the semiotic elements that exist in the Grebeg Sukuh oral tradition and the specific aim is to describe the tradition, aims and objectives, as well as semiotic elements in the Grebeg Sukuh oral tradition. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method with Charless Sandes Pierce's semiotic approach. Data collection techniques and also information obtained by researchers, among others, through observation or observation, interviews, and also documentation. The results of this study provide information about: (1) a general description or description of the Grebeg Sukuh oral tradition, (2) the intent and purpose of carrying out the Grebeg Sukuh oral tradition, and (3) semiotic elements according to Charles Sandes Pierce's theory in the Grebeg Sukuh oral tradition.
