Ajaran Moralitas dalam Manuscript Etnis Tionghoa Berjudul Sêrat Kian Coan

Ancient manuscripts are intellectual properties that should be preserved. They contain information and knowledge that are beneficial to society. Although they were written in the distant past, the information in the manuscript can still be used as a yardstick of the knowledge development. Serat Kian Coan (SKC) is one of the ancient manuscripts. It pertains to moral values that are relevant with today’s societal life. By employing descriptive qualitative with content analysis, the present study aims at describing and explaining the moral values carried out in SKC manuscript. Data source is the SKC manuscript. We analyze quotes, clauses, and sentences that reflect moral values. The result points out that SKC’s moral values are still relevantly applicable in the current societal life. This research concludes that there are six types of moral values in the manuscript including children devotion to parents, parents’ affection to children, loyalty, responsibility, help, and harmony. In short, those moral values embody in the household level and the societal level.
