This research is motivated by the importance of figurative language as an aesthetic element that not only beautifies literary works, but also deepens the meaning and emotional experience of the reader. The purpose of this research is to describe the form and function of figurative language in the short story "A Pair of Old Shoes" by Sapardi Djoko Damono through a stylistic study. The method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research data in the form of language units in the short story containing figurative language, which are analyzed using Geoffrey Leech's stylistic theory through careful and repeated reading techniques. Data validity is obtained through theoretical triangulation so that interpretation is more objective and consistent. The results of the study show that this short story utilizes various figurative language, such as personification, metaphor, hyperbole, irony, satire, simile, paradox, and allegory. This style of language is used narratively to bring inanimate objects to life, express the characters' emotions, and convey criticism and reflections on life implicitly. Personification becomes the dominant style of language because it plays an important role in building the story's perspective through shoes as a symbol of loyalty, struggle, and human relationships. In conclusion, the use of a simple yet meaningful style of language in this short story strengthens the aesthetic and humanitarian values, while also demonstrating Sapardi Djoko Damono's authorial characteristics in presenting reflections on life through symbolic and suggestive language.
