Abstract

Literary works are the result of the author’s imagination and reflection on social phenomena. Literatury woks are commonly realized in the form of poetry, short stories and novels. This study aims to describe the style of depiction of eroticism in the text contained in the collection of short stories Saia by Djenar Maesa Ayu by using the study of genetic structuralism. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Based on data analysis, it can be found that there are eight stories that contain eroticism. Djenar Maesa Ayu describes erotic texts using words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that contain anaphora, association, enumeration, hyperbole, climax, metaphor, repetition, and symmetry language styles. In addition, Djenar Maesa Ayu describes erotic texts in a vulgar and transparent manner. In the Saia short story collection, the depiction of eroticism is influenced by the author’s personal life and socio-cultural factors. Djenar Maesa Ayu started his career in literary work writing by visiting a number of great Indonesian writers. In addition, the history behind the Saia poetry collection is how Djenar voiced the injustices received by women through his writing style that shows of eroticism in a typical language text.
