This study aims to analyze the poem "Never Returning" by W.S. Rendra using an expressive criticism approach. This approach views literary works as a reflection of the author's inner expression, emotions, and personal experiences. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques through literature study and intensive reading of the poetry text. Data were analyzed by examining poetic elements, such as diction, imagery, and tone, which represent the author's emotional state and inner experiences. The results show that the poem "Never Returning" is an expression of deep sadness and loss, reflecting W.S. Rendra's inner struggle and personal experience in facing a final separation. Through simple yet emotionally meaningful language, Rendra successfully transforms his personal experience into a universal reflection on the transience of life. Thus, expressive criticism provides a deeper understanding of the poem's meaning by placing the author's expression at the center of the analysis.
