Abstract

This study explores how leadership criticism is conveyed through parody in the wayang play Kuntul Wilaten. The main objective is to analyze how characters in the play serve as representations of different leadership models, especially those lacking in moral integrity. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this research focuses on textual analysis of the Kuntul Wilaten script. The findings reveal that characters such as Prabu Durjudana, Patih Sengkuni, Adipati Karna, and Danghyang Durna reflect flawed leadership marked by ambition, manipulation, and a focus on image rather than substance. In contrast, Yudistira and Dewi Kuntul Wilaten represent ideal leadership characterized by wisdom, humility, and inner strength. Parody serves as an effective tool to deliver social and political critique in a subtle and engaging way. Through this narrative, audiences are invited to reflect on the deeper qualities of true leadership integrity, emotional maturity, and moral commitment. The play remains highly relevant in today’s context, where many leaders tend to prioritize popularity and image over ethical responsibility and public service.
