Konflik Batin Tokoh Novel Confessions Karya Minato Kanae (Kajian Psikologi Sastra)

Abstract

This study aims to describe the inner conflicts of the characters in Minato Kanae’s novel Confessions. The approach used in this study is literary psychology, especially Alfred Adler’s individual theory. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative with the main data source is novel. The data collection technique used is note-taking. The collected data then are analyzed by using content analysis technique. Based on the results of the research, the inner conflicts of the characters can be explained as follows; First, the form of inner conflict of several figures using Alfred Adler’s psychological theory includes the principle of inferiority, the principle of a sense of superiority, the principle of lifestyle, the creative self principle, the conscious self principle, the principle of apparent goals and the principle of social interest. Second, the causes of inner conflict in the characters Moriguchi, Shuya, Naoki, Mrs. Naoki, Mizuki and Kiyomi are feelings of being hurt, trapped in complicated conditions, discomfort with existing conditions, reality that does not match expectations, and fear of. Third, there are attempts by the characters to resolve inner conflicts in various ways, as follows: accepting circumstances, avoiding conflicts, rebellion, making changes, and seeking the truth.
