Kohesi dan Koherensi Pada Cerpen Sungai Karya Nugroho Notosusanto

Abstract

A good literary work must contain cohesiveness and coherence. In the short story Sungai by Nugroho Notosusanto, these two aspects can be found. The research aims to; (1) describe the grammatical and lexical cohesion in the discourse of the short story Sungai by Nugroho Notosusanto, (2) describe the coherence of the short story discourse. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with reading and writing techniques. The results and discussion of this study indicate that there are elements of grammatical cohesion in the form of pronominal (personal pronoun, pointer, possessor, questioner, liaison, and indefinite), substitution (nominal and clausal substitution), omission (ellipsis), and conjunctions. Lexical cohesion is in the form of repetition (epizeuksis, anaphora, and andiplosis), synonymy, antonym (absolute opposition), and collocation. Coherence is found in 3 sentences. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher found aspects of grammatical cohesion, lexical,
and coherence realized by the author in his short stories.
