Gaya Bahasa Retoris dalam Kumpulan Cerpen Metafora Padma Karya Bernard Batubara

Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe Keraf ’s form and the function of rhetoric style which included asyndeton, polysindenton, euphemism, hysteron proteron, pleonasm, tautology, periphrases, erothesis or rhetoric questions, hyperbole, and paradox in a compilation of short stories Metafora Padma written by Bernard Batubara. The method of this study was descriptive-qualitative. The technique of collecting data was field note and then analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of analysis, there were 9 language styles found in the object, they were (i) asyndeton, which functions to describe a person’s physical state, place, and activity, (ii) polysindenton, which functions to describe the specific place, the name of person, and the person’s activity, (iii) eumphemism, which functions of delicating the utterances (iv) hysteron proteron, which functions to describe the characteristics (v) pleonasm and tautology, which functions to reinforce the story description, (vi) periphrases which functions to make the language more polite, (vii) erotesis, which functions to confirm the previous phrase, (viii) hyperbole, which functions to exaggerate, and (ix) paradox, which functions to attract attention due to the truth it holds.
